The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is continuing work on the Dugway East Interceptor Relief Sewer (DEIRS); this project will temporarily close the intersection of Eddy Road and Gray Avenue to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning April 18. The intersection is expected to reopen the week of May 2, 2011.
The intersection will be closed due to the installation of a new sewer line and regulator structure in the area. Work will be completed by the project’s contractor, DiGioia-Suburban Excavating.
Detours will be posted as follows:
- Southbound traffic on Eddy Road will be re-directed east on St. Clair Avenue to East 125th Street, south on East 125th Street to Arlington Avenue and west on Arlington Avenue to Eddy Road.
- Northbound traffic on Eddy Road will be re-directed east on Arlington Avenue, north on East 125th Street and west on St. Clair Avenue to Eddy Road.
- Traffic along Gray Avenue will be re-directed accordingly via East 120th Street, St. Clair Avenue and East 124th Street.
A map showing the detour routes is linked above.
The purpose of the DEIRS installation is to reduce combined sewer overflow (CSO) volume in the area from 85 million gallons to 21 million gallons per year. This project is part of the Sewer District’s Project Clean Lake, which includes the construction of gigantic storage tunnels designed to hold combined wastewater and stormwater during heavy rains, reducing overflows into area waterways. The area’s combined sewer overflow volume will be reduced further upon construction of the Dugway Storage Tunnel.
