OUTREACH: Stall tactics reach customers where our business meets theirs

Public-restroom messages reach customers with comedy, education

Guests visit public restrooms for relief. But depending on the venue, they may also receive a little environmental education. Consider it a stall tactic.

We have been fortunate and proud to work with local partners to brand their restrooms with creative messaging that relates our work to our customers. From spoof movie posters in Tower City Cinemas during the Cleveland International Film Festival, to “I can’t fight this feeling anymore” song lyrics in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, unexpected connections like these leave guests with an appreciation for the work it takes to protect Lake Erie.

“We’re willing to take some risks when it comes to creativity,” said Community Relations Specialist Jenn Elting. “Humor goes a long way when we try to explain work like ours.”

The effort began with #WaitToTweet campaign decals that were featured in restrooms at Tower City Cinemas and Progressive Field. That expanded to a presence in Great Lakes Science Center restrooms, as well as stalls at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Baldwin Wallace University, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, Quicken Loans Arena, and more.

“Some of these are ongoing relationships,” Elting added, “related to educational programming or a shared mission. Others are more specific, usually based on the crowd drawn to the event. In both cases, we work with the host to create decals or posters or mirror clings designed to speak to the visitors.”

If you are a local business or organization interested in decals for your restrooms or event, we’d be happy to speak with you.
