Traffic along Superior Avenue between W. 6th, W. 9th Streets will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting May 19
May 10, 2017—Traffic in downtown Cleveland will be impacted by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Superior Stones Canal CSO Improvements Project. Beginning the evening of May 21, 2017, construction will reduce Superior Avenue to one eastbound lane and one westbound lane between W. 6th Street and W. 9th Street.
In addition, W. Superior Avenue between W. 9th Street and Robert J. Lockwood Drive will be closed to westbound traffic. These closures will remain in effect through December 2017.
UPDATE June 1, 2018: Our project manager reports that along the Superior Ave work zone, the pavement restoration work has finally started, but will not be completed until the end of June, weather permitting.
The purpose of the Superior Stones Canal CSO Improvements Project is to increase the capacity of the sewer system, thereby, reducing the amount of raw sewage discharging into the Cuyahoga River. At the completion of the project, more than 13 million gallons of raw sewage discharging into the environment will be eliminated annually.
This project began in August 2016 and is part of Project Clean Lake, the Sewer District’s 25-year program to control the amount of raw sewage discharged into area waterways, including Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie, during heavy rains. Project Clean Lake will reduce combined sewer overflow (CSO) from 4.5 billion gallons to 500 million gallons by 2036.

When is the construction on Superior Avenue between E. 6th and E. 9th going to be finished? The story said December, but it looks like it’s nowhere near being finished.
Thanks for the question, Marie. I spoke with our project manager yesterday and got some details, adding them to the story this morning. One open westbound lane has been added, but construction will continue this month. Thank you for your patience.

Hello John, How is the project moving? Is there an updated completion of Early 2018? Thanks.
Thanks for your question, I spoke to our project manager this week. He indicates that along the Superior Ave work zone, the pavement restoration work has finally started, but will not be completed until the end of June, weather permitting.
Any word on the project compeltion? The headline reads to be completed in early 2018 and we’re mid-May. I’m also wondering when W. Superior will be restored– it looks like the Hope Memorial Bridge went to one lane eastbound today (5/17) and the Main Avenue bridge is in the same state for the duration of the summer.
